But before diving into treatment, you’ll need to come in for your initial orthodontic appointment.

What To Expect At Your First Visit

Your first visit to our office is an exciting time: it’s the first step down the path to a beautiful, healthy new smile! It’ll be a chance for us to both get acquainted with one another, to discuss your orthodontic situation and any conditions you may have, and to explore potential options for treatment.

Your first appointment is scheduled for an hour, and we plan this much time to make sure we can answer all your questions and go over everything with you in detail.

1. Medical & Dental History

Your orthodontist will ask about your dental and medical history, including any past orthodontic treatments, dental issues, and overall health. They may also ask about habits like thumb-sucking or teeth grinding.

2. Oral Examination

The orthodontist will examine your teeth, jaws, and bite to look for alignment issues, crowding, spacing, and other orthodontic concerns. They may also check your jaw joint (TMJ) and facial symmetry.

3. X-Rays & Imaging

Most initial exams include X-rays, photos, or digital scans to get a detailed view of your teeth, roots, and jaw structure. This helps the orthodontist plan treatment accurately.

4. Impressions or Digital Scans

Sometimes molds or digital scans of your teeth are taken to create a precise model, which is used to design braces or clear aligners.

5. Discussion of Treatment Options

Based on the evaluation, the orthodontist will discuss possible treatment options, estimated timelines, and costs. This is also a good time to ask questions about braces, Invisalign, or other appliances.

6. Next Steps

You’ll leave knowing whether treatment should start immediately, be monitored, or scheduled for a later time. A personalized treatment plan may be provided during this visit or at a follow-up appointment.
