Braces Resolutions For 2017

Braces Resolutions For 2017

The new year is just around the corner, and we know many of our patients are getting excited for the coming year and drafting lists of New Year’s resolutions. But between all the resolutions to go to the gym more or clean up more consistently, why not add a few resolutions for your braces? Add these to your list to make 2017 your best year yet for orthodontic health.

2017 New Year’s Resolutions for Your Braces

  • Brush and Floss Daily: Unfortunately, it’s all too easy to skip days on brushing and flossing while you’re wearing braces. But this spells bad news quickly: failing to brush or floss leaves your teeth vulnerable to bacteria and acids that can cause tooth decay and derail your treatment. This year, resolve to brush and floss every single day to help ensure your treatment goes smoothly.
  • Cut Down Sugar Intake: If there’s one simple thing you can do to improve the health of your teeth, it’s cutting down on sugar. Sugar interacts with bacteria in the mouth to form acids that eat away at tooth enamel, which can cause decay and stop your treatment dead in its tracks. This year, roll back your sugar intake – your teeth and braces will thank you for it.
  • Wear Your Retainer: If you’ve recently got your braces off or are getting them off in 2017, a great resolution is to wear your retainer as much as prescribed. Your retainer is critical to ensuring the longevity of your smile, and you’ll need to wear it every day to make sure it’s effective. Protect your smile by wearing your retainer every day in 2017!
